Plenary Speakers

Our 2020 Annual Conference brings you an excellent list of experienced speakers, representing decades of expertise specifically related to this year's theme: Restorative Justice. Included in this year's schedule are:

Johonna Turner (Ph.D., University of Maryland) is a faculty member at Eastern Mennonite University’s Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, and the Co-Director of the Zehr Institute for Restorative Justice. Johonna has worked directly with children and youth as an instructor, mentor, and advocate within community-based organizations and public school systems. Her more than twenty years of service as an educator has been enhanced by many years of involvement in community organizing, cultural activism, and scholarly research.  As a survivor and leader committed to faith-rooted practice, Johonna's vision of transforming trauma is ‘Wounded Healing in the Way of Jesus’. She resides in Harrisonburg, Virginia where you might find her sitting in solitude and silence or learning how to make her own clothes.

Mike Yoder is the Director and Founder of GuideSpring, a nonprofit walking with people in their journey of transforming their emotional and relational wounds. Mike is trained in STAR: Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience and has also received training in Restorative Justice and Community Peacebuilding through the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  Mike grew up in an Amish and Mennonite Family and highly values culture and the strengths and challenges it can bring. He enjoys working with people individually, and branching out relationally to include healing with their families, churches, and communities as they walk through the impact of trauma.
